A STORE IS BORN…
It all started on Feb. 18, 2009 when Paul Tappay at age 34 donated part of his liver to his father Garry at the Toronto General Hospital. Garry, 71 suffered from cirrhosis of the liver. He is also diabetic and his kidneys were failing. The liver donor transplant surgeries were a complete success!
Paul who works part-time at the Lincoln County Humane Society went back to work on May 24 but during his recovery at home, he had time to think about what he really wanted to do in life. The transplant surgery for his father was a very emotional and personal event in his life. To give life was a wonderful thing to do and now he had a chance to start a new life for himself. His parents, Agnes and Garry, both asked him to take this time during his convalescing to consider his future possibilities: maybe a career change, go back to school, retrain for another job, do something that he wanted to do but never had the chance to do it.
Paul always wanted to have his own comic book store. He had collected comics since he was 10 years old and loved the art work, the stories they told and the awesome super heroes that he always dreamt about as a young boy. So a store was about to be born.
Paul put together a Business Plan with assistance from the City of Niagara Falls, found a perfect store for rent on Queen Street, and with the help and support of his family, he opened his store “Pulp Comics” at 4413 Queen Street in Niagara Falls on May 22, 2009.
This 4th of July will be the grand opening of Pulp Comics… 4-1/2 months after Paul’s and his father’s life changing surgeries in February…superheroes come in all forms.
